All materials provided | Only $32 | All proceeds are direct donations to our 501c3.

Get ready to embark on an exciting journey into the world of fermentation at the Giving Garden! Hosted by certified nutritionist Lauren Hyden and local farmer Savannah Elliot, this workshop promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Dive into cabbage season and discover the secrets of crafting your own sauerkraut, a tradition rooted in centuries-old fermentation practices. Sauerkraut, which translates to "sour cabbage" in German, has a rich history dating back to ancient China, where it was prized for its ability to preserve cabbage during long winters at sea. Later embraced by European cultures, sauerkraut became a staple food, valued not only for its longevity but also for its health benefits.

Beyond its delightful flavor and crunchy texture, sauerkraut offers a treasure trove of health benefits. Through the fermentation process, cabbage transforms into a powerhouse of nutrients, including beneficial probiotics that support gut health and digestion. These live cultures help balance the microbiome, aiding in the breakdown and absorption of nutrients while bolstering the immune system.

Fermented foods like sauerkraut are also rich in enzymes, which can enhance digestion and ease gastrointestinal discomfort. Additionally, sauerkraut contains vitamins C and K, as well as minerals like potassium and calcium, contributing to overall vitality and well-being. Regular consumption of fermented foods has been linked to improved digestion, reduced inflammation, and even enhanced mental health.

At the workshop, you'll not only learn how to make sauerkraut but also gain a deeper understanding of the science behind fermentation and its profound impact on health. Plus, with all materials provided, you'll have the opportunity to create a batch of sauerkraut to take home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Held at the Giving Garden, this event embodies the principles of sustainable living and community support. Plus, all proceeds directly benefit our 501c3, advancing our mission to promote food justice and accessibility in our community.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Lauren and Savannah for sharing their expertise and supporting our community. Join us for a fermentation adventure that nourishes both body and soul. Let's ferment, friends!
